Family papers, 1775-1950.

Papers, primarily 1838-1924, of a nineteenth century academic family including journals, correspondence (mostly outgoing), and manuscript and published writings. The lives of William Francis Allen and his second wife Margaret Andrews (1839-1924) are more fully documented than are those of their four children-- Katherine (1865-1940), Andrews (1870-1931), William Ware (1873-1898) and Philip Loring (1879-1908)-- who are represented almost solely through the stories and plays they wrote as youngsters.
